The Caribbean is the epitome of most people’s dream sun vacation; beautiful beaches, lush, verdant rainforests, cultural heritage, shopping! What’s not to love? I have had the distinct pleasure of helming Windstar’s Caribbean experience for 6 seasons, and through the years I have picked up a couple of local, favorite experiences that your clients are sure to love and are sure to gain you praise for your regional awareness.
I may be a little biased, but I think having access to our newly transformed
Star Breeze sailing the Caribbean next summer is splendid. The Caribbean is just a stone’s throw away from Fort Lauderdale and our turn ports of Philipsburg, St. Maarten and Bridgetown, Barbados make it even more convenient for your clients to sail with us.
There are so many awesome experiences and ports to visit, I couldn’t ever list them all. But here are just a few highlights of some of the islands we call on.
- The British Virgin Islands offer some of the most beautiful beaches in the region. While in Virgin Gorda, visiting the famous landmark The Baths is a must for your clients. These massive granite boulders stand out against powdery white sand and crystal clear waters. There is also ziplining in Tortola, where your clients will have breathtaking views of Tortola and the surrounding islands while gliding through and over the rainforest.
- Mayreau is perfect for small ships. It is one of the smallest inhabited islands of the Grenadines and unbelievably quaint. The white sand beaches make it a perfect place for Windstar Cruises’ Signature Beach Party while enjoying the toys of our Watersports Platform.
- Dominica is one of the most unspoiled mountainous and greenest rainforests in the Caribbean. With stunning landforms, rivers and verdant greenery, there will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy the majestic Trafalgar Falls which is surrounded with picturesque landscapes, exotic flora, fauna and the natural hot springs.
- Curacao - The historic Willemstad Inner City and Harbour has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list since 1997 and is full of pastel colored colonial architecture. Curacao is known for its beaches, expansive coral reefs, and rich marine life, and along with Aruba and Bonaire make up the famous ABC Islands. Visiting the popular Hato Caves is a must. They consist of marine coral limestone accumulated over millions of years. After sea levels dropped, these corals were exposed to atmospheric corrosion and karstic processes making them a truly stunning spectacle.
- Montserrat is a beautiful mountainous Caribbean island named Pompeii of the Caribbean when the local volcano Soufrière Hills erupted and buried Plymouth in 1997. The Buried City Tour puts you close up and intimate with historical volcanic activity. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and will share very personal stories about how a tiny island lived with and through explosive and active volcanic episodes and how the local inhabitants continue to build up their island. Windstar Cruises was actually one of the first cruise lines to return to this island and this is honestly, one of my favorites.
- Barbados- Although known for having some of the most diverse beaches in the Caribbean, and being the birthplace of rum, I would actually recommend your clients go see Harrison's Cave, which is a magnificent natural phenomenon. Formed from a particularly beautiful type of crystallized limestone, this stunning cavern is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular natural attractions in the entire Caribbean. Though created over the course of hundreds of thousands of years, Harrison's Cave has only been accessible to the general public for some 15 years.
- St Maarten / Philipsburg, has cobblestone streets and colorful, colonial-style buildings lining its Front Street shopping area. A must do is Dennis Conner's America's Cup, a unique adventure and a once in a lifetime opportunity which gives our guests the chance to compete in their own race around a shortened America's Cup course.
Regardless of what island you are on, the region is absolutely gorgeous in the summer with plenty of opportunities to take advantage of snorkeling, hiking, ziplining, diving, shopping, sailing past the Pitons, and of course enjoying our famous Private Signature Beach Party.
This is your clients’ chance to be one of the first guests to sail on
